Ten Scary Things on Tuesday

So, I was going to avoid talking about all things hand-sanitizer, in order to prevent inciting another chemist to saying mean and nasty things, but forget you chemists with your "anti-hand sanitizer" platform. I would be remiss if I did not include in my top 10 list of fears:
1. Germs, which leads to:
2. Sick babies.
3. Running out of hand-sanitizer. Just kidding. I'm don't rely on it that much. Just messing with you chemists out there.
4. Showering when Brad is not home. Showering is a very vulnerable thing to do, really. When I hear little noises, I'm always peeking out from the shower curtain. I curse the day I watched Psycho. It has forever dampened my showering experience:

5. Snakes. One of my first memories involves me sitting on the toilet in the bathroom by myself, and a snake coming out from behind the sink. Maybe that clears some things up for you.

6. Brown Recluse spiders. Their bites can do all kinds of bad--and they can be hiding in the most obscure spot, like under a rock. Gardening gloves, gardening gloves, people!
7. Heights make my palms sweat.
8. Burns. I threw water on burning butter once in high school. Don't ever do that, it hurts.
9. Getting hurt and not being able to get to the girls or a phone. Maybe I should get one of those Life Alert, I've fallen and I can't get up, things--that might make me their youngest client.
10. Cramped spaces. I didn't realize this one until I was in a very small plane in Costa Rica, where I could not straiten my legs, not even a little bit, the entire flight. I had to work hard not to scream in frustration.

What rational, or irrational things are you scared of?

1. Heights. I can't climb a ladder. At all!
2. My teeth falling out! I have nightmares about this!
3. Closed spaces. I hate elevators, so does Emma.
4. Losing one of my children in a public place. Over the weekend we bought 2 child harnesses so we could go to the zoo this summer safely. Call them leashes, I don't care. I think they are a necessity for a mother of twin toddlers going out on her own!
5. Big hairy spiders. When my sister and I were 10 and 11 we woke up one night to baby spiders crawling all over us. Enough said!
6. Sleeping in the dark when I'm alone.
7. Earthquakes. We are due for a big one.
8. Hornets, bees, wasps, anything that can sting!
9. Driving in heavy rainstorms or snowstorms.
10. My computer crashing, again!!

I don't think you'd actually want to hear that list. It's way too long :)

I hear you on #9 though. I've thought before about what would happen if something happened to me during the day and Bean was on her own. Gives me chills to think about it.

And by the way, my hubby is a chemist, and he has no problem with hand sanitizer. I think some people just want to have something negative to say and that is way more about them then it is you. I'm with you, why can't we just support each other??

And that is why I have never seen Psycho. My shower experience is safe. ;) AA

Fascinating! I never heard the story about the snake before! I can't believe you never told me that one! Maybe it's something you don't like to talk about?

BTW - to Wendy, I have a couple 'leashes.' I have lost kids in public places and it is TERRIFYING, especially at the zoo! Buy them USE them! I totally recommend it! Who cares what other people think about it! Do what you have to in order to 1. Stay sane and 2. keep your kids safe.

I sometimes swear that I hear creepy noises while showering too...I've done my fair share of peeking! :-) How that is going to help me, I don't know, but at least I will know what's coming, ha! And now I think I am afraid of brown recluse spiders, even though I wasn't 2 minutes ago. :-) Thanks for linking up!

Lice. I think it is the teacher in me.

Going to squish a small crawly bug/spider and having it crawl up my arm and get lost somewhere on me and not be able to find it.

Stairs that have open backs or littles holes on the steps. Maybe subconciously I think I'm going to fall through?

Losing my husband while he's gone on a trip. An old coworker's husband died in a car crash on his way home in bad weather while I was working with her, and it has never left my memory.

I actually just talked about a series I'm starting called "My Biggest Fears" - my first post was just last week! http://stresscasey.blogspot.com/2011/04/my-biggest-fears.html

Being germophobic myself, I laughed at the first part of the post (oh, those silly anonymous chemists!), and then nearly screamed when I scrolled down to the picture of the spider. Which should tell you my biggest fear! *shudder*
